iLIVE: ayurvedic wisdom for living well
Ayurveda, a 5,000 old healing tradition was founded in ancient India. The word Ayurveda is derived from two Sanskrit words – Ayus, meaning life and Veda – wisdom, or knowledge; Ayurveda is a science of life and a wisdom of well-being. From an Ayurvedic perspective your mind and body are inseparable; human beings are not viewed as mere thinking physical machines, but rather a complex fields of energy and intelligence that are in constant dynamic exchange with their environment. Ayurveda states that health is not just the absence of the disease, but a state of vibrant balance, where all the layers of our beings – physical, physiological, psychological, and spiritual are fully integrated.
Today, doctors are increasingly citing stress as a major contributing factor to most illness. Our minds and bodies react to everyday stress by shifting out of balance, creating physical challenges and emotional turbulence. In time, we find ourselves in toxic relationships and non- nourishing patterns of eating, sleeping and digestion. As your stress is eliminated, your mind and body begin to function with maximum effectiveness, creating health, vitality and happiness.
At the heart of Ayurvedic philosophy is the concept that all illnesses are caused by some form of indigestion. When our digestion is weakened or incomplete, we accumulate toxic residues in our body-mind system. This leads to obstruction in the flow of energy, information and nourishment, and ultimately contributes to illness and disease.
Accumulation of toxicity may manifest in the following ways:
Loss of taste Loss of appetite Joint pain Body odor
Lack of alertness Tongue coating Indigestion Heaviness
Weakness Depression Bad breath Sour taste in mouth
General aching Fatigue Irritability
Ayurveda teaches that the quality of food, the type of food and the environment in which we eat all influence our ability to thoroughly digest a meal. Learn how to balance your unique constitution and improve your digestion by choosing appropriate, balancing foods and eating with awareness.
